  1. Our experts' solutions

BBA was mandated by Mott Electric to integrate the IEC 61850 standard and cybersecurity components for the project. The mandate was to complete the detailed engineering, and configure and commission a new substation that would use cutting-edge smart-grid technology.

    • The proposed solutions included the latest generation of intelligent electronic devices, as well as human-machine interface, data archiving and cybersecurity systems that comply with the IEC 61850 standard and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) CIP requirements.

      Designed network architecture
    • Configured and commissioned protection relays, a real-time automation controller (RTAC) and Ethernet switches using IEC 61850 standard protocols
    • Configured and commissioned a security gateway for the substation
    • Designed and commissioned the HMI to be used by operators and for research purposes
    • Integrated the RTAC into the building’s technical management system
    • Configured and commissioned GOOSE messaging to transmit transfer trips to sections of the micro-grid
    • Integrated the security gateway with the BCIT network
  1. BBA solutions enable the client to integrate the IEC standard and meet NERC CIP requirements—something our team is proud of.
