BBA Supports La Musique Aux Enfants Project

  • News

This initiative combines music learning and continued education.

Montréal, December 2, 2016 – BBA is among the numerous partners who participated in launching the La musique aux enfants project, which is a musical prekindergarten and kindergarten project rolled out at the École Saint-Rémi Annex of the Commission scolaire de la Pointe-de-l’Île (CSPI), in the borough of Montréal-North.

  1. Conceived by Maestro Kent Nagano and orchestrated by the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) in cooperation with Université de Montréal and the CSPI, the initiative will introduce preschool children to intensive music learning as a means of supporting their overall development and contributing to their long-term educational success.

Members from the BBA team volunteered their time to help set up the new offices for the École Saint-Rémi Annex, where the project is taking place. In particular, our teams performed the engineering for the following elements: heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems for the annex, the building electricity and the concrete slab on which the Annex rests.

    Project overview

Some 160 students from the École Saint-Rémi Annex will receive at least one lesson in rhythm and choral singing per week and will have the opportunity to participate in cultural activities, putting them in contact with OSM music and musicians.

Of these students, a group of 16 will receive close to three hours of piano, violin, rhythm and choral singing instruction each day, while a second group of 16 children will receive 75 minutes of music instruction each day. These lessons will take the form of short learning modules integrated into the Québec Ministry of Education curriculum.

The project will first be rolled out as a pilot project over the next three years. Its mission is to promote music education for children and to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in early-childhood music education.

The project is inspired by the positive impact that learning music can have on the holistic development of children. This impact will be measured thanks to Université de Montréal.
