Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Québec, May 16, 2017 – BBA receives top honours by winning the Léonard prize in both the Environment and the Energy categories at the 2017 Grands Prix du génie-conseil québécois, which took place on May 15 at the Grande bibliothèque de Montréal.

  1. First, BBA was awarded in the Environment category for the Clean Energy From Non-recyclable Waste project, carried out for Enerkem Alberta Biofuels. As part of this project, BBA provided detailed engineering services for the layout of a plant that converts non-recyclable household garbage into clean, renewable energy.

The firm also won the prize in the Energy category thanks to the Optimization of the Meadowbank Gold Mine Cogeneration Plant project, carried out for Agnico Eagles Mines Limited. As part of this project, BBA provided engineering services to solve reliability and efficiency issues for the mine’s cogeneration plant located 70 km north of Baker Lake in the Kivalliq region of Nunavut.

“We’re very proud to have contributed to these innovative projects, which are steps toward solving the serious worldwide issue of global warning,” states André Allaire, President of BBA. “Calculated greenhouse gas emissions for the project with Enerkem are reduced by 110,000 tons of CO2 per year through less landfilling. And thanks to optimizing existing assets, proposed by BBA, Agnico Eagle Mines was able to reduce annual consumption of diesel fuel for its Meadowbank gold mine by 2 million litres, reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 5,500 tons, which is great news for our planet!”

This marks the sixth time that BBA has won top honours at the Grands Prix du génie-conseil québécois.
