PROJECT DESCRIPTION

For Wabush Mines, the manganese reduction project was critical for the long term viability of the mining operations as it would result in a substantial increase of the current ore reserve, allowing an ore with higher manganese content to be mined. BBA helped them finalize the design and prepare a detailed project capital cost estimate.

The main deliverables of this project were:

  • To prepare drawings and other deliverables along with the appropriate field measurements and additional engineering to secure a final project design study
  • To develop detailed cost estimates for required mechanical, civil, structural, electrical and automation works
  • To develop a detailed project schedule minimizing the construction work impacts on the normal mining operations
  • To maintain close coordination of the engineering activities with the Cliffs Mining Services Company, which initially developed the design
