PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Electrode manipulation and electrolysis hall cell cleaning occasionally cause membrane tearing, in turn starting significant electrolyte leakage at the level below. If the electrolyte is kept at an adequate level during leakage, repairs can be delayed until the next total hall stoppage. Otherwise, the process must be stopped as soon as possible, which occurs several times a year.

BBA developped a jumper system installed on the cell to be repaired so uninterrupted current is possible even in the absence of electrodes in this cell.  In the course of this project, the BBA team accomplished:

  • Problem Identification
  • Definition of project and jumper
  • Electrical simulations
  • Mechanical simulations
  • Testing and commissioning
