PROJECT DESCRIPTION
A joint venture constituted of SNC-Lavalin International Inc. and Worley Parsons (referred to as "SLWP") was contracted by EMAL to act as the EPCM contractor for the construction of Phase 1 of this world class greenfield aluminum smelter with a nominal capacity of 700,000 tons per year including a 2400 MW power plant and port facilities. Within the scope of this mandate, BBA provides detailed engineering services in the energy and automation areas.

Electrical Engineering
- 400/220/33 kV GIS (gas insulated switchgear)
- 400-220 kV, 220-33 kV, 33-6.6 kV, 33-0.4 kV and 6.6-0.4 kV transformers
- 6.6/0.4 kV switchgears
- 350 kA rectifier sets, DC collector busses and harmonic filters
- HV/MV/LV cables and underground cable routing
- Power plant interface, utility interface and system studies (stability, transient, short-circuit, load flow, protection coordination and grounding grid)
Automation Engineering
- PLC programming establishing instrumentation and control standards
- Orphan package: Functional description, PLC programming, FAT (Factory Acceptance Tests) and commissioning
- Awarded package: Deliverable review, FAT (Factory Acceptance Tests) assistance
- Ethernet and ControlNet (manufacturing) communication network
- Expertise services for the fibre optic network
Civil and Mechanical Engineering
- Main substation building (100 m x 45 m), including five (5) transformer bays and HVAC systems
- 19 area substations (25 m x 6 m), including 4-transformer bays and HVAC systems
- 10 transformer and rectifier bays, including DC collectors and harmonic filters
